A recent post on Reddit is going viral, in which a young intern shared his experience with a startup in Gurugram. A user named @Regrets_only_ has gained traction online as he wrote about his overnight termination from the company. The anonymous user wrote that he had left his home and spent Rs 30,000 to relocate for the role and worked 10-12 hours daily, including some weekends.
As per his post, he was supposed to work closely with the founder. But after 23 days of working for 10 to 12 hours and sometimes on weekends, he got laid off because apparently one of his high-paying clients backed out.
“I was shocked… I regret believing the founder,” the intern wrote, describing the situation as “a disaster.”
He further added, “I was shocked because I was promised permanent employment after 3 months with a minimum salary of 40k. Honestly, so disappointing and disheartening. This was a disaster, and I regret believing the founder. Sucks to be unemployed in Gurgaon in this economy. What should I do next?”
What do other Reddit users say?
“Something similar also happened with me. Please don’t let negative thoughts get into your head and start applying mindlessly on LinkedIn, though 90% of job listings are fake there, but you can very well get 2-3 calls a month if you keep applying daily,” commented a user.
“It happens. If you go back in time and think about it, you would still have accepted this offer. At that point in time this was the best decision you could take given the information. Talk to the founder and see if he has founder friends that are looking for someone like you. Don’t get disheartened. In this economy, you will have to fight harder but you will find something eventually,” another user wrote.
“Gurgaon startups are shit to the core. Think of them as Ramu chat bhandar. If the business works you will get salary else they will fire you. Try to get into an MNC in Gurgaon or move to some other city like Bangalore or Pune. But always choose a MNC or atleast a mid range startup with 300-500 people atleast. It will have some processes in place,” another user commented.
