Bank Holidays in August 2025: Banks to remain shut on THESE Days; Check details

Bank customers are set to face a three-day break in mid-August 2025, with bank branches across several states remaining closed from Friday, August 15, to Sunday, August 17.

Independence Day holiday on August 15

On August 15, banks nationwide will remain closed to mark Independence Day — a national holiday commemorating India’s freedom from British rule.

Janmashtami closures on August 16

The next day, August 16, coincides with Janmashtami celebrations in many states, leading to additional bank closures in Ahmedabad, Aizawl, Bhopal, Chandigarh, Chennai, Dehradun, Gangtok, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Jammu, Kanpur, Lucknow, Patna, Raipur, Ranchi, Shillong, Srinagar, and Vijayawada, as per the Reserve Bank of India’s official holiday calendar.

Sunday break on August 17

August 17 will be a Sunday, a regular weekly bank holiday nationwide.

Total August closures

In total, banks in various states will remain closed for about 15 days in August 2025, factoring in weekends, second and fourth Saturdays, and major festivals like Raksha Bandhan, Ganesh Chaturthi, and Krishna Jayanthi.

Online services unaffected

While physical branches will remain closed during these days, customers can continue to use ATMs, internet banking, mobile apps, and UPI services without interruption, except in rare cases of scheduled maintenance.
