Apple is preparing to launch its next generation of smartphones, the iPhone 17 series, on September 9, 2025. The company has officially announced its “Awe Dropping” event, which will begin at 10:30 pm IST at the Steve Jobs Theatre in Cupertino.
This year’s iPhones are expected to mark one of the biggest upgrades in recent years. From a redesigned body and a new chipset to advanced cameras and a slimmer model, the iPhone 17 lineup could set a new benchmark for Apple.
iPhone 17 series models
The iPhone 17 family is expected to include four models. These are the iPhone 17 Pro Max, iPhone 17 Pro, iPhone 17, and a brand-new slim variant called iPhone 17 Air. The slim model is said to use an aluminum frame, offering a lighter and thinner profile compared to the Pro versions that rely on titanium.

This approach suggests Apple wants to appeal to different types of users. The Pro line will continue to target performance-focused buyers, while the Air model may attract those who prefer a sleek and lightweight device.
iPhone 17 colours
Apple’s invite design hints at a fresh set of colours for the new iPhones. iPhone 17 Pro models reportedly may arrive in black, white, gray, dark blue, and orange. The standard iPhone 17 lineup may include black, white, pewter grey, green, pink, and light blue options.
The colour palette is expected to offer both professional tones and bold shades, giving users more choice than in the past.

iPhone 17 design
Leaks suggest that Apple may slightly lower the placement of the Apple logo on the iPhone 17 Pro models. This adjustment may also lead to changes in the arrangement of the MagSafe magnets on the back of the phone.
The Pro models are also rumored to shift from titanium back to aluminum frames. A larger rectangular camera bump with rounded corners may appear on the rear panel, although the triangular layout of the lenses will likely stay the same.

iPhone 17 display
For the first time, all four models are expected to feature ProMotion displays with a 120Hz refresh rate. This technology, previously limited to Pro versions, delivers smoother scrolling and better video playback.
These displays are likely to be LTPO OLED panels. While this allows for always-on display functionality, it is still uncertain whether Apple will offer that feature on every model or restrict it to the Pro lineup.
iPhone 17 performance
The upcoming iPhones are likely to be powered by the A19 Pro chipset. Built on TSMC’s 3nm process, this chip promises faster performance along with better efficiency.
In addition, Apple is expected to upgrade memory across the lineup to 12GB RAM. This change would support more demanding applications, seamless multitasking, and advanced Apple Intelligence features.
iPhone 17 camera upgrades
One of the most significant improvements may be in the camera department. All iPhone 17 models are expected to feature a 24 megapixel front camera, doubling the resolution of the iPhone 16 series. This will enable sharper selfies and more detailed video calls.
On the rear, the iPhone 17 Pro Max is expected to include three 48 megapixel sensors covering Wide, Ultra Wide, and a Tetraprism Telephoto lens. It may also support 8K video recording. The standard iPhone 17 may carry a dual-lens setup, while the slim iPhone 17 Air is likely to feature a single 48 megapixel sensor.
iPhone 17 Pro exclusive features
The Pro models are also rumored to include a mechanical aperture system, giving users manual control over light entry and depth of field. This would be a first for Apple’s smartphones.
Other Pro-only features may include dual video recording, where users can capture footage from both front and rear cameras at once, as well as the continuation of 5x telephoto zoom which will not be offered on the standard or Air versions.
