Stock Market Opening Bell: Indian stock markets began Thursday’s session on a cautious note, tracking mixed global cues. At open, the BSE Sensex was down 34 points or 0.04 per cent at 81,391, while the Nifty50 slipped 9 points or 0.04 per cent to 24,964.
Infosys shares were down 1 per cent ahead of the company’s board meeting today, where it is expected to consider a share buyback — the fifth in its history. Analysts noted that the stock has shown mixed performance around past buyback announcements.
Among major laggards were Tech Mahindra, Kotak Bank, Ultratech Cement, Trent, and Bharti Airtel.
On the flip side, Adani Ports, NTPC, BEL, Sun Pharma, SBI, Titan, ITC, and Eternal gained up to 2 per cent.

In the broader market, Nifty MidCap and Nifty SmallCap indices outperformed, rising 0.04 per cent and 0.22 per cent, respectively.
Sectorally, Nifty IT was under pressure, down 0.4 per cent on profit booking, while Nifty Pharma climbed 0.5 per cent.
