The government has launched Angikaar 2025, a two-month nationwide campaign to accelerate application verification and housing completion under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban) 2.0, according to an official statement reported by IANS. The initiative, which marks the first anniversary of PMAY-Urban 2.0 launched on September 17, last year will be implemented across more than 5,000 Urban Local Bodies (ULBs).
Push for faster delivery of homes
Under the new campaign, door-to-door awareness drives, housing camps and public events will be organised to speed up approvals and connect beneficiaries with support services. As part of the fresh push, 1.47 lakh additional pucca houses have been approved, raising the total sanctioned under PMAY-Urban 2.0 to 8.56 lakh.
The government said the focus is on ensuring that marginalised groups benefit from the scheme. So far, 32,551 homes have been sanctioned for Scheduled Castes, 5,025 for Scheduled Tribes and 58,375 for Other Backward Class families.

PM Awas Mela – Shehri
The flagship event of Angikaar 2025 will be PM Awas Mela – Shehri, scheduled in two phases. The first leg will be held from 17 to 27 September, while the second will be organised on any day between 15 and 31 October. The mela aims to highlight the benefits of both PMAY-Urban and PMAY-Urban 2.0, while fostering community participation and convergence of services at the grassroots.
“Whether it’s guiding families through their application process, speeding up the construction of long-awaited homes, or connecting them with solar power and loan support, Angikaar is about reaching the unreached and including the excluded,” the Housing and Urban Affairs Ministry said in its statement.
The Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban) was first launched in 2015 with the promise of “Housing for All”. Over the years, it has enabled millions of urban poor families to move into permanent, affordable homes. The second phase, PMAY-Urban 2.0, introduced in September 2024, seeks to complete the mission by ensuring every urban household has a secure home with access to essential services.
According to the ministry, Angikaar 2025 is designed as a saturation campaign to bridge last-mile gaps in PMAY-Urban 2.0 and deliver on its core promise – no family left behind.
