BioEnergy and Tech Expo: At the second edition of the BioEnergy and Tech Expo, Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari emphasised the growing importance of bioenergy in shaping the nation’s economic future and improving the livelihoods of farmers. The Minister emphasised that promotion of bioenergy is not only essential for environmental sustainability but is also linked with farmer welfare and economic development. He said that true development cannot be achieved unless farmers get their due share.

Drawing attention to global trends, the Minister explained how key agricultural commodities influence global pricing:

In this context, the Union Minister advocated for a similar benefit to India’s agricultural sector by focusing on biofuels. He said that the way to boost agriculture lies in promoting bioenergy.

Among the highlights was mention of isobutanol, a potential sustainable alternative to diesel. The Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI) is currently studying the feasibility and performance of isobutanol as a biofuel.

The Minister confirmed that a detailed report will be submitted to the Ministry of Petroleum soon, paving the way for possible policy interventions and future adoption.
