What is P17A Frigate Mazagon project?
Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders (MDL) is building four of the seven sophisticated, domestic stealth frigates that are part of the Indian Navy’s P17A Frigate Mazagon project. These multi-mission frigates are built to operate in a “Blue Water” environment and combat a variety of maritime threats because of their improved stealth capabilities, cutting-edge weapons, and sensors. With roughly 75 per cent of the systems and equipment coming from domestic sources, the project seeks to increase India’s independence in naval shipbuilding.
