Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel on Sunday, October 12, inaugurated the newly developed four-lane road connecting the Jain pilgrimage site Mahudi with Pilvai. The 4.45 km stretch, built at a cost of Rs 20 crore, is expected to ease traffic, reduce travel time and improve connectivity between Ahmedabad-Gandhinagar and Vijapur.
Boost to pilgrim travel and local connectivity
The upgraded route is set to benefit thousands of devotees who visit the Mahudi temple, especially ahead of the upcoming Kali Chaudas festival during Diwali. The state government said the wider road will not only improve transportation facilities for pilgrims but also help reduce fuel use and congestion on nearby highways.
The Mahudi-Pilvai stretch forms part of a larger effort by the state to improve road infrastructure across Gujarat. Officials said the work was completed within 10 months, enabling its inauguration before the festive rush.

Focus on durable cement concrete roads
Under Chief Minister Patel’s direction, the Roads and Buildings Department has been promoting the construction of cement concrete roads to strengthen the state’s network and reduce damage from monsoon rains. The Mahudi-Pilvai road, built with high-quality concrete, is part of this sustainable infrastructure push.
Part of Gujarat’s ‘Vikas Saptah’ initiative
The inauguration took place during Vikas Saptah, a week-long celebration marking 24 years of governance and the beginning of the 25th year of ‘Service, Dedication and Good Governance’ under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership. From October 7 to 15, multiple development projects are being launched across the state as part of this initiative.
