In the aftermath of the tragic Ahmedabad plane crash involving Air India flight AI-171, the airline has begun a comprehensive round of one-time safety checks as mandated by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA). These inspections are being carried out across its Boeing 787 fleet as a precautionary measure.
Air India confirmed that the safety checks are being performed as the aircraft return to India, before they are cleared for their next scheduled operations. So far, nine Boeing 787 aircraft have undergone inspection, with checks on the remaining 24 planes expected to be completed within the regulator’s prescribed timeline.
“These checks are essential to ensure continued safety of operations and may result in higher turnaround time. Some long-haul routes, particularly those landing at airports with curfews, could experience delays,” said an Air India spokesperson.

Air India has also assured that for any passenger impacted by the disruption, either full refunds or complimentary rescheduling options will be provided.
The airline reiterated its commitment to maintaining the highest safety standards amid increased scrutiny following the deadly crash that claimed over 260 lives.
