It seems despite all of their fame, fortune and huge career success, some stars just can’t escape the sadness of a family estrangement.
In a situation so many of us can sadly relate to, some of Hollywood’s biggest names, like Sir Anthony Hopkins and Jennifer Aniston, have been estranged from family members and have spoken about it over the years.
For some, the pain is fresh; it’s rumoured Victoria and David Beckham are in the middle of a ‘feud’ with eldest son Brooklyn Beckham.
Royalty isn’t immune, either.
Once-inseparable brothers Prince Harry and Prince William are reportedly estranged, with Harry now living in the US with wife Meghan Markle, who is also believed to have cut contact with her father Thomas Markle.
Here, nine.com.au takes a look at some of the complicated relationships some stars have, or have had, with their family.

Sir Anthony Hopkins
The acclaimed Welsh actor, 87, has been estranged from daughter Abigail Hopkins – who he shares with ex-wife Petronella Barker – for years.
Hopkins reportedly claims in his memoir that the separation stems from when he decided to leave her mother and left the family home.
“It is the saddest fact of my life, and my greatest regret, and yet I feel absolutely sure that it would have been much worse for everyone if I’d stayed,” he writes, per People.
In his memoir We Did Ok, Kid, per People, he spoke of a “regrettable interview” he did with Radio Times and offered a public olive branch to Abigail, 57.
“I hope my daughter knows that my door is always open to her,” he wrote, adding he was “sorry” for the hurt he caused.
Hopkins hasn’t minced his words in the past when it comes to their estrangement.
In 2018, he told the Radio Times he had no idea if he had grandchildren and didn’t care.
“People break up. Families split and, you know, ‘Get on with your life’. People make choices,” he said.
“I don’t care one way or the other. You don’t have to like your family. Children don’t like their fathers. You don’t have to love each other.”
More recently, he claimed to The New York Times that he and his wife had tried reaching out to his daughter.
“My wife, Stella, sent an invitation to come and see us. Not a word of response,” he said.
Jennifer Aniston
Aniston’s actress and model mother Nancy Dow died in 2016 and the pair had a rather complicated relationship over the years.
The Friends star’s father was Days of Our Lives star John Aniston.
Speaking to the Hollywood Reporter in 2015, Jennifer briefly addressed their relationship.
“We’re all fine,” she told the publication at the time, after their estrangement.
“She had a temper. I can’t tolerate that.”
Aniston added that her mother “was very critical of me” and “unforgiving”.
Dow also released a book called, From Mother And Daughter To Friends: A Memoir, before her death and also reportedly spoke about her daughter on a TV show.
Aniston reportedly did not invite Dow to her wedding to Brad Pitt in 2000, however, they are believed to have reconciled before her death.
The Beckham family
For the past three years, rumours of a rift in the Beckham family have dominated headlines.
It’s believed David and Victoria Beckham’s eldest son, Brooklyn, and his wife Nicola Peltz Beckham have a strained relationship with the rest of the family, evidenced by them missing major family events.
In the most recent development, Victoria extended a public olive branch to her eldest son.
It’s not clear exactly what is going on, but the Spice Girl turned fashion designer, 51, publicly showed her support for Brooklyn, 26, when he shared a cooking video on Instagram
Victoria, who boasts 33.1 million followers, showed her support by ‘liking’ the post, and it didn’t go unnoticed by eagle-eyed fans.
“He looks so sad [cry emoji],” one commented.
Another added: “Your mum just liked the post, they miss you, just give them a call.”

Tensions among the family – which are said to have left Brooklyn estranged from parents Victoria and David, 50, and his younger brothers Romeo, 23, and Cruz, 20 – first emerged around Brooklyn and Nicola’s 2022 wedding.
At the time, Nicola notably decided not to wear a custom wedding gown from Victoria’s own design label, and instead wore a custom Valentino Haute Couture Gown.
Since then, several occasions and big family milestones have reignited rumours of a ‘feud’.
“Everyone is always going to say rubbish,” Brooklyn told the Daily Mail.
“I just try and do this, play some golf with some friends. It’s good fun.”
David was recently knighted in London, with Brooklynnoticeably missing from the family’s celebrations.
Adele
Adele’s relationship with father Mark Evans – who walked out on the family when she was three – soured when he was reportedly paid for a story about her, and she hit back in her own interview.
“He’s f—ing blown it,” she reportedly told US Vogue.
“He will never hear from me again. Because there is nothing that would upset me more than my dad being bribed by the press.
”’I love her so much.’ Really? Why are you telling me that through a newspaper? If I ever see him I will spit in his face.”
Evans died in 2021 following a cancer battle.
“I know he loved me, and we actually got our peace before he died,” she later told Vogue.
