Flaws in Air India’s Singapore-bound plane; 200 passengers deplaned at Delhi Airport

More than 200 passengers faced a distressing experience on September 10 after being deplaned at the Delhi airport due to the faulty air conditioning system in Air India’s Delhi-Singapore flight.

Air India Flight AI2380, being operated with a Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft, was scheduled to depart around 11 pm on Wednesday from Delhi airport, but eventually got delayed due to a fault in the aircraft’s electric supply and air cooling system.

The passengers alleged they were seated for nearly two hours in the faulty cooling system before they were deboarded and taken to the terminal building. According to a passenger, the crew did not provide any specific reason for deboarding the passengers and shifting them to the terminal building.

Video clips surfaced on social media showed passengers taking help of newspapers and magazines to fan themselves.

The Singapore-bound Air India flight departed at 5:36 am on September 11 after a change of aircraft and a long delay of around six hours.

Air India initially did not make an immediate statement regarding the incident. However, the airline later apologized for the inconvenience caused to the passengers.

The airline claimed that it provided all necessary support to its passengers, including meals and refreshments.

“Flight AI2380 operating from Delhi to Singapore on 10 September was delayed due to a cabin cooling issue on ground prior to departure. Passengers were regularly kept informed of the delay and our ground colleagues in Delhi extended all support to passengers at the airport, including providing refreshments and meals. The flight departed at 0536 hrs IST after a change of aircraft. We regret the inconvenience caused to our passengers. At Air India, the safety and well-being of our passengers and crew remain our top priorities.” -Air India spokesperson.

The national flag carrier of India, Air India, is owned by the Tata Group and Singapore Airlines through the holding company Air India Limited, which was founded in 1932  by JRD Tata. In recent years, Air India flights operated by Boeing aircraft have become a concern for passengers due to technical and maintenance issues.
