Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday, September 24, chaired the 49th meeting of PRAGATI, the Centre’s digital platform for project monitoring, where he reviewed eight major infrastructure projects across mines, railways, water resources, industrial corridors and power. According to the Prime Minister’s Office, notification issued by the Press Information Bureau (PIB), the projects under review span 15 states and Union Territories and involve an investment of over Rs 65,000 crore.
Eight critical projects under review
At the meeting held at South Block, PM Modi assessed progress on projects that officials described as vital drivers of growth and public welfare. The discussions centred on streamlining inter-agency coordination, setting firm deadlines and resolving bottlenecks without delay.
Warning on cost of delays
Reiterating concerns raised in earlier PRAGATI sessions, the Prime Minister warned that execution delays impose a “double cost”: higher project expenditure and denial of timely access to essential services for citizens. He urged both central and state officials to work with a result-oriented approach to translate opportunities into tangible improvements in quality of life and business competitiveness.

States urged to strengthen oversight
PM Modi urged states and Union Territories to set up their own systems to track the progress of flagship projects, stressing that regular reviews at the local level are key to avoiding delays. He said reforms that improve efficiency, competitiveness and innovation would allow India to respond more quickly to new opportunities.
