Reuters’ X account withheld in India due to legal demand; government says no blocking order issued

The official X (formerly Twitter) account of international news agency Reuters has been withheld in India following what the platform described as a response to a “legal demand.”

A message displayed on the account showed that “@Reuters has been withheld in IN in response to a legal demand.”

However, a spokesperson for the Government of India clarified that no such legal request has been made to block Reuters’ account.

The spokesperson added that the government is currently working with X to resolve the issue.

“There is no requirement from the Government of India to withhold Reuters, and we are continuously working with X to resolve the problem,” the spokesperson said.
