An incident occurred at the Srinagar airport when a passenger physically assaulted four SpiceJet employees at the boarding gate of flight SG-386 bound for Delhi.
According to a statement issued by a SpiceJet spokesperson, the passenger – identified as a senior Army officer – attacked the staff with punches, repeated kicks, and even used a queue stand as a weapon.
One employee sustained a spinal fracture, while another suffered serious jaw injuries.
The situation escalated when a staff member collapsed unconscious, yet the passenger continued to assault him. Another employee, attempting to help the unconscious colleague, was severely kicked in the jaw, resulting in bleeding from the nose and mouth.
However, all injured employees were immediately taken to the hospital and are currently receiving treatment for their injuries.
The airline stated that the passenger was carrying cabin baggage weighing 16 kg, more than double the permitted limit of 7 kg. When the ground staff politely informed him about the excess weight and requested payment of the applicable fee, the passenger refused and forcefully entered the aerobridge without completing the boarding process. A CISF official intervened and escorted him back to the gate. However, at the gate, the passenger became increasingly aggressive and physically attacked the staff.
An FIR has been filed with the local police. SpiceJet has also begun the process of placing the passenger on the no-fly list, as per civil aviation regulations. The airline has formally written to the Ministry of Civil Aviation, urging strong action against the individual involved.
CCTV footage of the incident has been obtained from airport authorities and handed over to the police for investigation.
