Stock Market Opening Bell: Benchmark indices opened lower on Monday, weighed down by losses in IT counters after the US government announced a one-time $100,000 fee on new H-1B visas.
At 9:20 am IST, the BSE Sensex fell 475.16 points to 82,151.07, while the Nifty50 slipped 88.95 points to 25,238.10. Market breadth was weak, with IT companies among the top laggards in early trade.
Analysts said the sudden visa fee announcement sparked concerns over margins and hiring costs for Indian technology firms, triggering sharp selling across the sector. Broader markets also traded flat to slightly negative in the opening session.
