Ten states, NCDRC record over 100% disposal of consumer cases in July; Tamil Nadu, Rajasthan among top

Ten states along with the National Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission (NCDRC) achieved disposal rates exceeding 100 per cent in July 2025, which indicates that more cases were resolved than were filed during the month, according to the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution. Meanwhile, NCDRC reported a disposal rate of 122 per cent.

Tamil Nadu, Rajasthan, other states show higher case disposal rates

Among the states, Tamil Nadu recorded the highest performance with 277 per cent, followed by Rajasthan (214 per cent), Telangana (158 per cent), Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand (150 per cent each), Meghalaya (140 per cent), Kerala (122 per cent), Puducherry (111 per cent), Chhattisgarh (108 per cent), and Uttar Pradesh (101 per cent).

The overall disposal of consumer cases across the country during July was higher than the same period in 2024.

2 lakh users onboarded

Alongside this progress, the government also highlighted the growing use of the e-Jagriti platform, launched in January 2025 to streamline digital grievance redressal. As of August 6, more than two lakh users, including Non-Resident Indians (NRIs), had registered on the portal, with 85,531 cases filed through it this year.

The platform consolidates earlier systems such as OCMS, e-Daakhil, NCDRC CMS, and the CONFONET portal into a unified interface. It allows consumers to file complaints from anywhere, pay fees online or offline, and track case status in real time. Features include multilingual support, chatbot assistance, virtual hearings, voice-to-text options for visually challenged users, and dedicated modules for advocates and judges.

Recent case outcomes highlight impact

In Tamil Nadu, a consumer was awarded a refund of Rs 14,249 plus compensation and litigation costs for a defective television, while another case in Thanjavur saw a NEET coaching institute ordered to refund fees and pay compensation of Rs 5 lakh.

While in Punjab, a buyer of defective tiles received a refund and compensation, and in Haryana, a consumer was granted a refund and compensation after purchasing a faulty dishwasher.

In Gujarat, the consumer commission directed an insurance company to reimburse a Mediclaim claim it had denied, with additional compensation.

Government urges wider use of platform

The Department of Consumer Affairs said these developments reflect a move toward faster, more transparent, and inclusive consumer justice, with e-Jagriti expected to play a central role in the coming years.
