Nominations for the 2025 Game Awards, which honor the year’s most innovative, unique and impactful story-driven narratives in the gaming industry, were announced Monday.
Leading the pack is the well-received French fantasy RPG adventure game Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 with a total number of 12 nominations — the most in the 11 year history of The Game Awards. The game which features voice acting from stars Andy Serkis (Lord of the Rings), Charlie Cox (Daredevil), Ben Starr (Final Fantasy XVI) and Jennifer English (Baldur’s Gate III) is takes place during a fantastical version of Belle Époque era in Europe as it follows a gang of volunteers of Expedition 33, who aim to destroy the Paintress, a being causing the yearly Gommage, an event that disappears those at or above 33 years old. In addition to coveted the Game of the Year nomination, Expedition 33 also picked up Best Narrative and Best Game Direction.
Other nominated titles include Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, with seven nominations, including game of the year, Best Game Direction and Best Score and Music. Hades II scored big category noms in Game of the Year, Best Independent Game and Best Action and Hollow Knight: Silksong also placed in Game of the Year and Best Art Direction.
Following last year, Sony Interactive Entertainment remains the most nominated publisher this year with 19 nominations — three more than 2024’s ceremony— followed by Kepler Interactive with 13 nominations and Electronic Arts and Microsoft both with 10. Fans can vote from now through December 10 via The Game Awards’ website and Discord server. Winners will be revealed December 11 at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles and be live streamed via YouTube, Twitch and Amazon Prime.
