Tour_de_Thar 2025: Cyclists gear up to navigate through desert in Norangdesar-Deshnok race

With Rajasthan preparing to host the inaugural  ‘Tour_de_Thar’ race for cyclists from Norangdesar to Deshnok on November 23, Union Ministers Arjun Ram Meghwal and Dr Mansukh Mandaviya attended a curtain raiser event in the national capital on Wednesday, September 24. Spanning the smooth, expansive stretches of the Amritsar-Jamnagar Expressway, the race through the sands of endurance will present Thar desert as a stage for showcasing courage and determination, according to a statement.

Marking the onset of the inauguration of the upcoming cycling contest, the Ministers of Law, and Labour and Employment and Youth Affairs and Sports unveiled the official Tour_de_Thar jersey, designed with the theme of sustainability and the desert landscape. The jersey’s design symbolises endurance, resilience and harmony with nature. 

Participants in the high-octane cycling contest will sport the jersey during the final event.

The ministers also inaugurated the official website and registration portal for ‘Tour_de_Thar’. The online facility will enable  cyclists from within the country and abroad to register and participate in the iconic race.

With Tour_de_Thar, Rajasthan invites cyclists from across the nation and the globe to experience the challenge of the Thar Desert and showcase the power of human determination.

3 categories to put participants’ stamina to the ultimate test

The event features three demanding categories: 300 km Relay, 200 km and 100 km. The categories are designed to test every cyclist’s stamina, strength, and mental fortitude, said the statement.

Over 2,500 participants, including professional riders from India and abroad, alongside passionate enthusiasts, are expected to take on the desert winds.

The Tour_de_Thar aims to promote Rajasthan’s rich cultural heritage and tourism potential. 

Along the route, spectators can witness local music performances, traditional dances, and handicraft exhibitions, set to create an immersive desert festival celebrating the flavour of the picturesque state. 

Initiatives such as the Namo Fit India Cycle Clubs, registered under the Fit India Movement, are actively supporting the event, encouraging communities nationwide to embrace cycling as a tool for fitness, well-being, and environmental responsibility.

The Tour_de_Thar event is envisioned to inspire future generations to embrace cycling, fitness, and adventure tourism, while cementing the country’s presence on the international sporting stage.
