Weather Update: The Chennai-based Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) on Sunday issued a heavy rainfall warning for 12 districts of Tamil Nadu. Heavy rain accompanied by thunder and lightning is likely at some places in Madurai, Ramanathapuram, Krishnagiri, Dharmapuri, Salem, Tirupattur, Namakkal, Tiruchirapalli, Dindigul, Theni, Virudhunagar and Sivaganga districts.
According to the latest bulletin, widespread rainfall was recorded across most parts of the state on Saturday. Hosur in Krishnagiri district recorded the highest rainfall of 12 cm, followed by Dindigul at 11 cm, and Avalurpet and Semmedu in Villupuram district at 10 cm each.
Meteorologists believe that this rain is occurring due to the low pressure area formed in the southern peninsular region and areas around Tamil Nadu.

This weather system is drawing moisture from the Bay of Bengal and the Arabian Sea, intensifying local convection and increasing the likelihood of thunderstorms.
Apart from heavy rain, light to moderate rain is expected over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal from Monday till October 10.
While most areas will only receive intermittent rain, the RMC has cautioned residents of vulnerable districts about the possibility of intense, short-lived rainfall, which could lead to localised flooding in low-lying areas.
The weather office has also issued a temperature advisory, indicating fluctuating conditions over the next 48 hours. Day maximum temperatures are likely to fall by 2-3 degrees Celsius in some districts due to persistent cloud cover and rain, while there may be a marginal increase of 2-3 degrees Celsius in some interior areas due to emergence of dry patches.
Authorities have urged the public to remain vigilant and avoid waterlogged areas, while farmers have been advised to plan field work and harvesting activities accordingly.
Disaster management teams have been kept ready in rain-prone districts to deal with any emergency. The RMC said it will monitor the changing weather patterns and provide timely updates. To ensure safety, residents are encouraged to follow official advice and track alerts through government channels and weather apps.
